How Beo Bakes Began

I never thought I’d own a bakery. Sure, as a kid I dreamed about running my own business one day—but in my imagination, it was always a veterinary clinic. Funny how dreams change, right?

Fast forward a few years (okay, more than a few): I went to college, got married, had kids, and life got wonderfully busy. Then one day, my sister invited me to a cookie decorating class. I agreed to go, but honestly? I didn’t expect much from myself. My sister was always the creative one, and I was more of the “athlete” of the family.

But to my surprise—I was actually good at it. Even better, I had fun. Like, really fun. There was something so satisfying about piping that first perfect outline and watching a simple sugar cookie transform into something beautiful (and delicious).

We ended up going back for another class two months later… and that’s where things really started to take shape.

At that point, I still never thought about starting my own bakery—between two kids and a full-time job, where does one find the time? (Answer: after the kiddos are in bed, of course!) But my sister and I decided to ambitiously make around 100 cookies for Beckett’s first birthday. It took us about five hours to decorate them, but they turned out so cute.

After the party, multiple people suggested that we should start a business, and that’s when the seed was planted. My husband will tell you that when I get an idea in my head… it’s going to happen.

It didn’t happen right away, though. Life got busy, and I felt like I needed more practice before jumping in headfirst. So over the summer, I practiced—a lot. I brought cookies to work, to friends, to family—basically anyone willing to eat a cookie was fair game.

Then, one Friday night, I made the decision: it was time. I registered with the state, got my cottage food processor license, and officially started this little dream of mine.

Right now, it’s a solo adventure—my sister claims she’s “too busy” to help 😉. But who knows? Maybe one day we’ll expand and do it together. For now, I’m just excited to share my cookies (and a little bit of my creativity) with you all.
